Walkley Board School was built in 1874 and is a Grade II listed building on the English Heritage register. The Gothic Revival style building, and associated caretaker’s cottage (1877), was one of a number designed by Innocent and Brown for the Sheffield School Board. The building was awarded its Grade II status as it is one of the earliest in England to be built after the 1870 Education Act.
When purchased by the landlord the building was in a poor state of repair. During its conversion to provide the accommodation available today as many original features as possible were retained.
